Difficulties Installing OpenCV for Windows

asked 2012-12-28 22:29:03 -0600

Hi. I have downloaded the OpenCV for windows (v2.4.3) and tried to follow the installation instructions (in Windows7, 32 bit) (- I am following instructions at http://docs.opencv.org/doc/tutorials/introduction/windows_install/windows_install.html#windows-installation).

This sounds very dumb - but what file (in what folder) do I run to run the setup wizard? I cant find a file called setup, nor any file *.exe and only one file *.bat (Make.bat).(I am trying to follow the step #3: "Make sure you have admin rights. Start the setup and follow the wizard.")

Thanks in advance for any help. Yes - I very new at this.

Hi! As soon as you downloaded from page on Sourceforge OpenCV-2.4.3.exe file, you have the setup file. It's just a self extracting archive. Extract it, and you'll have necessary libs and headers for creating your projects with OpenCV.

If you going to develop your applications in Visual Studio, I can advise to you this tutorial: How to build applications with OpenCV inside the Microsoft Visual Studio.

Thanks Daniil. Yes I understand now. The files/folders had all self extracted to the target directory OK.

It was the wording of the installation guide that made me think I should be working in a setup wizard - with options to be set etc. The text of the following instructions in the tutorial suggests this (sorry about big font):

4:"While adding the OpenCV library to the system path is a good decision for a better control, we will do it manually for the sake of this tutorial. Make sure you do not set this option".

5: "Most of the time it is a good idea to install the source files too, as this will allow for you to debug into the OpenCV library, if it is necessary. Follow the default settings of the wizard and finish the installation."
