Problems of using the deprecated way in android

Help needed i am going to start working on a big project in android the problem is that my team lead is insisting on using the deprecated way of using Opencv in android (the method which includes the binaries in the apk). The question is what longterm or shortterm problems may arise from using the deprecated method . also what are the pros and cons of both of them ( the new method and the old one)
