I am using Ubuntu 16.04 and Anaconda 3.5. I was successfully able to build OpenCV 3.1.0 from the git repository. My make command is as followed:

cmake -D CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=RELEASE \
-D CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr/local \
-D INSTALL_C_EXAMPLES=OFF \
-D WITH_FFMPEG=ON \
-D INSTALL_PYTHON_EXAMPLES=ON \
-D OPENCV_EXTRA_MODULES_PATH=~/opencv_contrib/modules \
-D BUILD_EXAMPLES=ON ..

>>> import cv2
>>> print (cv2.__file__)
/home/adam/anaconda3/lib/python3.5/site-packages/cv2.cpython-35m-x86_64-linux-gnu.so

my ffmpeg config is below:

ffmpeg version 2.8.6-1ubuntu2 Copyright (c) 2000-2016 the FFmpeg developers

However, I am still unable to use video functions:

python3 video.py /home/adam/opencv/samples/data/tree.avi
Warning: unable to open video source: /home/adam/opencv/samples/data/tree.avi

I have searched around for a few days but have not found anything that works and allows me to process videos. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have also asked this question on askubuntu but have not heard anything in a couple days, so I thought I was ask here as well.
