Can I use OpenCV to detect when an animal enters a specific area from a live webcam feed?

Hi all,

I am new to Python & OpenCV. I am trying to use OpenCV to read from a live webcam feed and initiate a PsychoPy script once an object (a mouse) enters a designated area. I am kind of lost and any assistance would be appreciated.
