Using findCirclesGrid with white pegboard

Is find circles literally circles or does it include dots?

I need to use a pegboard calibration target for other purposes. It would be nice if I can use it as is. However, if findCirclesGrid cannot process dots, then I can convert it to circles with an edge detector. It would help me write cleaner code if I knew what was needed before I start writing the code.
