how to differentiate a red object from light red object?

Hi everyone,

How to differentiate a red object from light red object, light green object from green object and light blue object from blue object?

That's why you have different way of classification using shapes & features.

But I have an light red object in red background and the difference in color is too small. When I try to find edge using Sobel, there is no edges around the light red object.

I would suggest moving to another color space where luminance is more accessible. Then it will be possible to seperate colors from light colors.

For example move to the HSV/HSL color space where you can first seperate colors based on the angle specific to that color than use the luminance axis to seperate between saturated and non saturated colors.
