fisheye module in openCV

I am trying to understand the basic concepts behind the opencv fisheye implementations, not what they do, but why their are implemented as they are, e.g. any papers, books or link explaining these functions would be helpfull:

• initUndistortRectifyMap
• undistortPoints
• calibrate
• estimateNewCameraMatrixForUndistortRectify
