Hi all,

I'm curious to know whether anyone has experience using OpenCV to identify different types of surfaces. For instance, suppose I had video or stills of glass, metal, stone, wood, etc. Could I use OpenCV to do this? How?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Cheers, wjg

Seems to be a classical texture classification problem. Compute your favorite texture-descriptor, like LBP, HOG or HAAR and follow the texton (a.k.a. bag-of-words) approach (see step 2-4 at Side-note: Using keypoint-based features typically don't make much sense for uniform textures, thus using texture-features is more favorable.
