peopledetect.py breaks

Good day.

I'm trying to run peopledetect.py sample with python 2.7 on debian wheezy. this line:

found,w = hog.detectMultiScale(img, winStride=(8,8), padding=(32,32), scale=1.05)

is broken for some reason:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/home/squigly/ppl.py", line 41, in <module>
    found,w = hog.detectMultiScale(img, winStride=(8,8), padding=(32,32), scale=1.05)
ValueError: need more than 0 values to unpack

if I change it to

found = hog.detectMultiScale(img, winStride=(8,8), padding=(32,32), scale=1.05)

(removing the ,w) it runs fine, though it doesn't detect anything (tried dozens of clear sample pictures).

Any ideas?
