Is there any enthusiasm for making point releases 3.1.1?

Since the release of 3.1 back in December 2015 there have been many great bug fixes pushed to master. For example, on OS X, there was a nasty bug where 100s after opening a VideoCapture device, openCV crashed. It has been patched in both OpenCV master; and we have a patch (to apply to OpenCV 3.1 source release) in the conda-forge feedstock (that we use to distribute it and the Python bindings). There a quite a few other patches that are queueing up for conda-forge to include, and it might be nice (unless 3.2 is soon) to make a release to help down-stream distributions from having to maintain a patch list.

Example bug: https://github.com/opencv/opencv/issu...

We are going to release OpenCV 3.2 in Q4 2016. There are some infrastructure issues to be fixed and several features being developed at this moment.

Is there possibility to make custom release tags on your side, something like 3.1-conda-1.0? We test each change before integration and check binary compatibility, so I think it is possible to mark any commit as a release and use it in your distribution.

Is the release still planned for next month?

Gary Bradski's slides on opencv's future had a release date of May 2016. However itseez was acquired right after that and the news on opencv.org and meeting notes on github have stopped.

Is there a good place to find the roadmap now?

There isn't much time remaining in Q4 2016. Has this been pushed back?

3.2 is available since a few days ago, in the nick of time ;)
