Minimum number of pixels required to detect a pattern.

I'm working on the RWDC and we need to find european corn borer larvae and the signs that they leave behind with a uav system. I was wondering how many pixels we would need in order to get a positive id on the 'shot hole' feeding pattern that they leave behind image description
