How do I use open cv to process an image to get it's position in front of a robotic arm?

I am currently working on a project that requires me to detect a plug point. I am using a picamera to take the picture but I can't figure out how to process the image so that I can find the plug point's position. The arm is essentially supposed to take a picture of the plug point figure out it's position and plug itself in to the plug point. I need help in image processing as I am completely new to open cv software.
