i need to track a cylindrical object with six degrees of freedom. so only 170-180 degrees of its surface area will be visible at a time. i'm trying to think of a good pattern to wrap around it so that no matter which portion of the surface i can see, i can accurately track its position and orientation (accurately enough for solvePnP). clearly the pattern should be asymmetric, but since the whole pattern won't be visible at once, i think it also needs to have locally unique features.
anyone with prior experience or ideas for this problem?
