Can I port python opencv project to android?

I want to work on an open cv project to be used on android but I have never built for android before, so this got me wondering if I can build the opencv project in python then port the project to android later.

there is no python on android, so "porting" will mean a rewrite from scratch to java/c++

have a look at the android samples , to get a feel for it.
