I guess since Intel has always been backing up this open source project, they have a benefit at maintaining it as good as possible. Though I get the impression they mainly bought Itseez for their technology, I am pretty convinced that OpenCV and OpenVX will stay as computer vision and parallel programming standards and thus won't disappear.
