Commerical use of the library OpenCV

asked 2016-04-05 13:56:53 -0600

Hello. I would like to use OpenCV in the program connected with medical data calculation. We would like to sell the program to other people. I would like to know the license details if it's possible to do so.

http://opencv.org/ :

OpenCV is released under a BSD license and hence it’s free for both academic and commercial use.

Could somebody tell me what this means? Neither the names of the copyright holders nor the names of the contributors may be used to endorse or promote products derived from this software without specific prior written permission.

Well, that means that if you, lets say, use the fact that OpenCV is used to built it as a foundation in any promotional activities without asking permission first to the official OpenCV developers. Same goes for the names of the users that have supplied contributions. If you would like to do that, you will need to ask for a written permission, which is mainly there to solve any legal issues.

Hello, Steven. Thank you, could you tell me what include these promotional activities?

Well that is quite difficult, since it will depend on what the company demands. I guess you are best contacting Itseez for this.
