OpenCV Object Detection results

hi im new to opencv and looking for what all the opencv object detection does. I see it can outline faces and objects, right to the edge of an object... With what coding has been done with OpenCV are there results of what pixel coordinates, etc... come from the object detection?

Also, with the versions available, which one should be used for testing and possibly releasing with apps?

result of detection is a list of rectangles.

using the latest version is advisable.
