What form for preprocessing can be applied to X-ray images to make it easier to detect certain items??

I read somewhere that airport for instance make use of color transformation, which visually makes it easier to perceive certain object, where from others => that even though they are visually visible, that doesn't mean that it computing wise make it easier to detect.. or what?

Are there any tecniques which makes it easier to detect object within x-ray images, and detect them using computer power ??

I think it depends upon what you are gonna detect from that image! No pre-processing technique is universal! So better be specific!

Pens and marker hidden within clothes.. They appear with an different shade of gray..

The issue is when it is cluttered by folds and so on.

"Certain items" can be detected with certain approaches ) Show your picture and mark item on it to be very specific.
