My wife is now half way through her comp. sci. degree and tired of working with slow, far from optimal laptops for her coding, projects, etc.

I have put together a configuration on PCpartpicker that will make her laptops (a Toshiba with AMD dual core and 6Gb 1333, and Macbook with Intel dual core and 4Gb 1600) look like trash. It includes an FX 6300 on a top rated 970 motherboard, and a Radeon graphics card for its usefulness in OpenXX acceleration. There is something that loses me though - How memory intensive are such projects? Do I need a great deal of memory? Do I need very fast memory? I have never worked with OpenCV (which is her primary endeavor), so I have no basis on which to answer either question (quantity and speed or RAM). And she is in no way hardware savvy.

I would appreciate recommendations from those of you with experience working with OpenCV. Have you run short of memory? Have you suffered for speed in memory?

Many thanks.

Sorry to tell you this, but this is not a good question. Tell us what you want to do with OpenCV instead of who needs it and what shop you are buying it from. To answer your question; no, i've never run out of memory and everything I've built with OpenCV is super fast!
