Hi, i'm quite new in computer vision and i'm now approaching the field of defects inspection. By now i have only worked with edge detection (doing my master thesis, spatial localization by means of elliptic shapes recognition in stereo images) and have not much confidence with other CV techniques like template matching, structured light or so.

Could you suggest any good literature (or key words to use in search) to find out something about the most used systems nowdays?

One application i'll be working with is detecting a partially oxidised data-matrix. I'm thinking at a laser-blade scanning (holes of the matrix will appear as a little distortion in the blade) to reconstruct the matrix that is not clearly visible at a simple looking, but this is the only way i have in mind. I'd like to know if there are better methods to do that or maybe compare other possible solutions.

Thank you in advance
