[ANNOUNCEMENT] Welcome back to the OpenCV Q&A forum 2.0!

asked Dec 26 '14

I am glad to announce that the forum is completely transfered to a new hosting system and thus we will be able to apply better anti-spam techniques on the forum for now.

I also want to raise attention to the fact that we wll be adding OpenCV Q&A moderators to the team in the next few weeks in order to keep moderation as good as possible. If any of you feels like helping out, please do leave your name out here and we will contact you later on.

I wish you all the best in these times of holidays and the best wishes for 2015!

first good thing is, that it's back at all ;)
faster, nicer, too !
unfortunately, though there is a captcha for signup, still no e-mail validation .
are we still moderated ? (did not dare to find out, yet)

oh, btw, the markup dialect seems to have changed, too. or is it just disabled ? inserting blank lines does no more split. also, trying to insert a link above, hmm. will have to find out
yea, best wishes, too ;)

I will note your remarks down and crosscheck them with Alex, see what he can do still. As to the moderation, everyone needs a single posting approval on their first post in the new forum and newbies under 10 karma have each post moderated.

Great that everything is being up again! @StevenPuttemans Of course I would be honored to help you moderating the forum. I hope, the others will join, too!

to be more precise, markdown evaluation in comments seems to be off.
you can still inject plain html (for links, bullets, and such) if nessecary.

In order to keep track of errors and current problems with the forum, please edit this answer and add your remark if needed!

[EXISTING FORUM PROBLEMS]

  1. FIXED Markdown evaluation in comments seems to be off, you can still inject plain html (for links, bullets, and such) if nessecary.
  2. There seems no option to select and clear inbox messages in the new setup. The 'clear notification' link clears the red inbox icon only, not any content.
  3. It seems that the spam is not gone yet but just invisible in the new setup... I still delete about 15 posts and spammers every single day.

06/01/2015 - Selection of new forum moderators

I have waited the responses of several forum members on the question on helping out as moderator. I have looked at all the applications and decided together with Alexander that the following people will be promoted towards the moderator status: @berak @Guanta @Haris

Off course we will need extra moderators in the future to support us, and I will keep in mind the other applications in mind for that. But for now the addition of 3 extra moderators seems quite enough looking at the effort needed to keep the forum clean.

oh, thanks for clarifying, yes, there's a link above the messahes.

Downside is that you cannot keep unanswered topics in a queue after viewing them. Is there a way to recreate that behaviour?

On the Users page, people with long names have their karma score and badges cut off.

No score or badges

When editing a question, the one who edits it will be the new "original poster". The timestamp of editing is also wrong.

@SR, look at it again. (got confused there, too). it seems to self-correct after some minutes.

the 'clear notification' link clears the red inbox icon only, not any content.

apart from nagging about the current problems, let me say, what i find nicer with the current version:

  • i have not seen the site being down, or any kind of latency since the move.
  • code in comments 'just works' (man, that was a pita)
  • code in general is just nicer.
  • folks can comment on closed topics (which allows clarification)
