terminal unresponsive in osx interactive session [closed]

Hi and Merry Christmas.

Seem to have opencv happily installed via homebrew using the native OSX python (as well as one that seems to be residing directly in /usr/bin/python). I can import cv within an interactive python session and successfully run many of the samples (like camera and drawing), but thought the interactive ones like hist.py work initially, the keyboard input doesn't respond properly. Numbers and letters simple appear in the terminal window and esc only yields ^[ in the terminal window.
