for Facerecognition, is gpu necessary?

I do not need to display an image. Is it necessary to have a gpu for training ( from existing face DB) and predicting? I'm sending in images to be predicted vi http.

probably not. to my knowledge, none of the facereco-algorithms use gpu optimization
