Hand micromotion recognition?

is it possible to recognize a micro-movements of the had while playing the guitar or knitting? I mean movement of the wrist and fingers, e.g. on fretboard?

Everything is possible. The question is: how difficult is it to realize it? And that depends on many factors. You don't provide enough informations for a good answer.

Consider following two scenarios:

scenario 1:

  • always the same setting: same camera, same room, same lightning conditions, same perspective, same background, same guitar
  • task: find out, if the player is playing (yes or no)

=> easy (basically a motion detector)

scenario 2:

  • given: some music video clip
  • task: return the song chords by detecting scenes, in which a guitar player plays chords and analyse them

=> not so easy
