Detect fingers in document images

Many times we click images of documents while holding documents in the other hand. As a result, document's boundary gets occluded by thumb or fingers. Is there a way to detect where in image is this happening? Any paper recommendations?

I guess you could find all contours in the image, see which ones are at the edge of the paper and small. Then for added measure check the colour of the pixels inside the contours.
