Do point-and-shoot cameras need to calibrated while setting up for stereo vision?

I need to generate a point cloud of a scene using stereo vision. Please help me on these points : 1.What kind of cameras are generally used? 2.Can you provide me with a guide to calibrate my camera in python using OpenCV? (I'm already following the one on official site opencv.org) 3. Do point-and-shoot cameras need to be calibrated? (like the most handheld small cameras nowadays). I'm very new in this field, so provide me with as much content as possible. Thank you.

If you are new in this field, why not buy directly a sensor that does the job? If you want real-time performance, my suggestion is to look at these sensors:
