Depth camera for self driving cars

This link mention new technology could help depth camera achieve depth resolution of 1 centimeter within 500m. However, this technique is too new and I can't find a real world product yet.

Before the technique become mature, which camera you would recommend?Kinect v2 is based on TOF, but it has limited range(5m?), outside the door acceptable range may become even lower.

Which depth camera would you recommend?Thanks

This is the exact reason why self driving cars have these huge LIDAR scanners mounted. There is simply no good alternative for getting high precision/resolution depth data. For this research needs a couple of more years.

@StevenPuttemans Thanks, looks like we could use depth map to measure short range only before the research of MIT become mature.
