I'm sorry to ride this thread almost a year later but I trying to install this and I'm having so many problems.

First, do I need all these tools listed here, http://docs.opencv.org/trunk/doc/tutorials/introduction/windows_install/windows_install.html#windows-installation

Second, I'm using Win7 Pro 64 bit but the windows IDE is 32 bit. I could not choose a 64 bit IDE from MSDN. Sometimes, I'm prompted for 64 bit pieces and other I'm doing with 32 bit. My other question about this working VS2012, will it install stencils or is the just access to native code?

I'll write a complete installation guide Visual Studio 2012 for OpenCV 5.0 in return for some help here.

Make a list of everything you want your openCV installation to be able to do. Besides that, either select 32 or 64 bit, combining both seems a bad idea. I will get back to this once you add the list to your remark. Also OpenCV 5.0 doesnt exist. Last stable is 2.4.9

This guide is a specific guide for widnows 7 and visual studio 2010, but it worked for me on visual studio 2012 also.

If you do not want to build openCV completely by yourself, as danii suggested, then just go for prebuilt libraries, which work perfectly.

Hi! Try official tutorial (or this answer).

P.S. Don't forget to select WITH_TBB option in CMake.

Thank you very much. I found the link (http://answers.opencv.org/question/6495/visual-studio-2012-and-rtlfreeheap-error/) very helpful to compile openCV 2.4.4 with VS2012 on 64bit win7.
