How can I detect vertical and horizontal edge at Android

I want to detect a vehicle using histogram of the vertical and the horizontal edge.

How can I detect vertical and horizontal edge on the camera and make the each histogram?

plz reply. and give me a advice when you know other method to detect object(vehicle) with simple method(cause I am using a android phone).
