Dear OpenCV-Enthusiasts,

I have worked with simple Image Recognition in OpenCV before and studied the O'Reilly book "learning openCV". Back before it was available as a Cocoapod, I even built the library myself for iOS Devices and MacOS and played around with it, but have been busy with other projects in the last two years.

Now, I recently visited the museum and while I was observing ancient cuneiform edgings I thought that these would be perfect for OCR, possibly even easier then our modern fonts (because of the simplicity of the wedges and lines). Please check out this picture.

Do any of you know of previous attempts in this direction? Or literature?

It's a little hard to google because the russian OCR-Software named 'Cuneiform' is obviously crowding the search results.

There are sumerian/akkadian dictionaries available, so after recognizing the glyphs the translation into english would be less of an issue.

Wouldn't it be amazing to have a Augmented Reality App in a museum to overlay translations over ancient sculptures?

PS: Check this one out, I mean the glyphs are quite clear and even have lines. (and one could step even closer to get a partial but bigger picture).
