i want to use open cv camera to take the picture of hand then extract the patterns from that picture of hand!

Thanks very much for your response!That is a very useful article !! but I want my open cv camera to automatically take picture is the form of canny edge detector then after that I can process that image! to extract the patterns from that image! Please guide me how can I do this task? Will I be needing Digital image processing or any thing else? Kindly guide me if possible!
